Kafka's late TD pass boosts East over West
NCAA Football Betting Lines
01/23/2010 - Orlando, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Northwestern's Mike Kafka connected with Penn State's Andrew Quarless on a two-yard touchdown pass with six seconds remaining to give the East a 13-10 victory over the West in the 85th edition of the East-West Shrine Game.
Kafka completed 18-of-27 passes for 150 yards for the East, which snapped a three-game slide in the series with a 24-19 victory last year. Blair White of Michigan State hauled in seven passes for 93 yards. Ole Miss' Joshua Shene made a pair of field goals for the victors.
Max Hall of BYU connected on 7-of-12 passes for 119 yards, a touchdown, and an interception for the West, which had three turnovers in the game. BYU's Dennis Pitta led the receiving corps with four catches for 72 yards. Ryan Moya of UCLA had a TD catch in defeat.
Trailing 6-3 early in the fourth, the West put together a five-play, 78-yard scoring drive to go in front. Nathan Overbay and Pitta made catches of 41 and 17 yards, respectively, to move the ball to the East eight-yard line. Hall then found Moya in the end zone to give the West a 10-6 margin with seven minutes to play.
The East drove into the red zone on the ensuing possession, but couldn't convert on 4th-and-6.
Following a punt by the West, the East took over at its own 45 with 1:49 to go. Kafka and the East converted on three third downs during the 11-play game- winning drive.
Freddie Barnes of Bowling Green highlighted the march with three consecutive catches of 12, seven, and 10 yards. Faced with a 2nd-and-10 from the West 11, Kafka eluded a sack and scrambled for nine yards. The East called a timeout with 12 seconds left before Kafka found Quarless in the back of the end zone for the victory.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Texas' Hunter Lawrence got the West on the board by making a 47-yard field goal with 5:56 left.
Shene made a pair of field goals -- 44 and 40 yards -- in the final 2:15 of the half to give the East a 6-3 edge at the break.
Neither team scored in the third, setting up the exiting finish.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
